WALLEYE: TECHNIQUE WITH DRAGGING LEAD ON THE BOTTOM |
Can this type of fishing be used in all types of fishing location? |
No! This technique is by far the best for medium size marked locations, with clear bottom, such as the beaches, deep shoals… Wherever there is plenty of water vegetation or obstacles, this technique is not effective, because the lead frequently gets tangled on the bottom. |
Is this a type of searching fishing technique ? |
Yes, even though the crossed distances are lesser than with other techniques, such as casting with classic lures, spinners, spoons, voblers, jigs…, where the searching method is much quicker. It is good to perform every passage at a few meters, two to three, away from the previous, which results in careful search of the whole zone. |
Do you need to use special tackle? |
No! It is enough to use the quiver type rod, match rod or rod for predator fish, designed for casting with lures. It is most important that the tip of the rod is not too stiff, but medium or slow action, so that walleye does not feel any resistance during the attack. |
Is it possibly to use all types of lures with this technique? |
No! If you perform the retrieval action one after another, with shorter or longer stops at the bottom, you need to choose effective lures during all phases of the swimming action. Spoons and spinners, as well as sinking crankbaits are out of the question. However, figurative* rubber lures, swimming or suspending crankbaits and especially live or dead minnows, as well as canadian or other worms, are excellent choices. |
Is there a special rig for this technique? |
Yes! If you set up in a sliding manner on the body rig from fluo line of 0,24 to 0,26 mm one hoof shaped lead*, from 10 to 50 g weight, depending on the distance and the depth of fishing, a well as the strength of the river current. Add a pearl to protect the knot, lock snap and leader approxiamtely 50 cm long, of 0,02 mm diameter thinner than the line from the spool. |
If you are fishing with live bait or dead fish, it is better to use the baiting of Stewart* type, because it enables counteraction as soon as the bite is discovered. Such a system does not let the small walleye swallow the hook too deeply, which could endanger its future if you want to return it to the water. |
